The 10th Lao Handicraft festival opened at the Lao ITECC, yesterday to promote local handicraft products that are unique and represent Lao identify.
Taking part in the ceremony were the President of Lao National Assembly, Mrs Pany Yathorthou and other high-ranking officials.
The Lao handicraft festival is a traditional event for craftspeople within handicraft, organised to provide opportunities for the craftspeople, especially for those who reside in the rural remote areas, to gather and meet with their clients both domestic and foreign customers, said Mrs. Chinda Phommasathit, the President of Lao Handicraft Association.
She said the activity aims to promote and develops local handicraft product that unique and represent Lao identify. This also illustrates the Lao handicraft are growing both quantity and quality. There are 170 exhibition booths of handicraft products, in which 48 are from provinces. In addition, you will find wide-range of goods and consumption that add variety flavor to the festival, said Mrs. Chinda.
She added the exhibition and sale are divided by type of products for the continence of customers. We have provided fair treatment to members and non-members. This year is very special as we have invited embassies of all ASEAN countries as well as some European countries that involved and support the Lao handicraft to exhibit their products and cultures.
There are five countries participating in the exhibition includes Thailand, the Philippines, Malaysia, Myanmar and Indonesia.
The Lao handicraft products for exhibition and sell includes Lao textile products: silk, cotton, products that being exploited in the sustainable manner include rattan, bamboo, paper and other fibers, handicraft made of wastes such as products made from scraps of wood and iron, silver-jewelry and precious metals: gold ornament, jewelry, souvenir, cultural products: wood crafting, pottery products, Lao food and agriculture product including the mulberry tree planting-rear silkworms. The 10th Lao Handicraft festival will display till to 23 October.
